Brenda Milkofsky Curatorial Fund Dinner

Old Lyme Country Club

40 McCurdy Road, Old Lyme

Thursday, April 17, 2025

6 – 9 pm

Come join us for an inspiring evening with Connecticut historian Frank Mitchell as he presents Radiance from the Waters: Late 19th century shipboard performances.

Dr. Mitchell is a curatorial adviser for the Toni N. and Wendell C. Harp Historical Museum at The Dixwell Community House and Director Emeritus of The Amistad Center for Art & Culture. As guest speaker, he will discuss the Hickman Jubilee Singers, an African-American a cappella ensemble known for their incredible voices and musical repertoire, who regularly performed aboard steamboats along the Connecticut River. This choir grew out of the movement spurred by the original Fisk University Jubilee Singers back in 1871 who performed spirituals and other rhythmic music to enthusiastic audiences throughout the United States and Europe.
