The Connecticut River Museum is pleased to launch an artist-in-residence program. Working with artists and creators across mediums, the Museum seeks to deepen connections between the public, the Connecticut River, and the Museum.

The inaugural 2026 Artist In-Residence at the Connecticut River Museum will feature Ben Cosgrove, a traveling composer-performer. His music reflects his interest in environment, place, and geography, specifically exploring how humans interact with and understand the landscapes around them and reflecting that relationship through sound.

Described by the Boston Globe as “a sonic plein-air painter… [using] his piano as a paintbrush,” Cosgrove has performed in every U.S. state except for Delaware and has held residencies and fellowships with institutions including NASA, the National Park Service, the National Forest Service, Harvard University, Middlebury College, the Schmidt Ocean Institute, and the Sitka Center for Art & Ecology. He has collaborated with groups ranging from rock bands to research scientists and has contributed music to several radio and film projects (including the Ken Burns documentary The American Buffalo).

• October 3, 2026: Featured during River Tales, with a gallery performance on the third floor of the Museum
• November 14, 2026: Live Concert with a debut of his new works at the Lay House
