In 2024, the Museum was gifted a Steamboat Excursion Poster from 1895. Fascinating, but in need of conservation to ensure its longevity, the poster captured the imagination of the Museum’s Curator. Full of detail, the poster advertises the performance of the Hickman Jubilee Singers. Who are these musicians? Join us to find out more during the lecture and talk back by historian Dr. Frank Mitchell who will discuss late 19th-century shipboard performances.

Dr. Mitchell is a curatorial adviser for the Toni N. and Wendell C. Harp Historical Museum at The Dixwell Community House and Director Emeritus of The Amistad Center for Art & Culture.
