Joe Attwater – Teacher/Naturalist, CT Audubon Society’s Roger Tory Peterson Estuary Center
Migration along the Connecticut River
As bird species are heading north this spring from their wintering grounds, many use natural landscape features to aid in orientation. One of these important features is the Connecticut River valley, a migratory flyway that runs from the Canadian border to Long Island Sound. In this talk, CT Audubon Society teacher-naturalist Joe Attwater will go over the importance of the Connecticut River for migrating birds and which species you can expect to see coming through the state.
Joe Attwater has been a teacher-naturalist with the Connecticut Audubon Society’s RTP Estuary Center for 4 years and leads many of the center’s bird related programs including hikes, guided owl prowls, webinars, and virtual mini-courses. Additionally, Joe conducts breeding bird surveys and habitat assessments of both private and public properties. Joe has a B.S. in Wildlife Biology from the University of Rhode Island, where he focused on ornithology. He enjoys hiking and birding in his spare time.
