BOOK HERE!

Captain Jones will explore the history of maritime commerce, shipwrecks, commercial fishing, search and rescue and other topics featured at the Columbia River Maritime Museum.

During a 30 year career as a Coast Guard officer and helicopter pilot, he participated in hundreds of search and rescue missions on the Gulf Coast, Great Lakes, mid-Atlantic and Pacific Northwest. Bruce commanded Air Station New Orleans (during Hurricane Katrina), Sector Lake Michigan and, finally, Sector Columbia River, which brought him to Astoria in 2011. He also directed the Coast Guard’s Office of Strategic Analysis. His military awards include the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, and three Air Medals.

After retiring from the Coast Guard, Bruce worked as a helicopter pilot for the Columbia River Bar Pilots, flying ship pilots to and from vessels approaching or departing the bar, in all weather conditions, day and night.

Bruce has worked at the Columbia River Maritime Museum since 2017. He was elected to the Astoria City Council in 2017, and was elected Mayor in 2019.
