Swing by the Connecticut River Museum for stories take-home craft activities that engage kids with the Connecticut River’s stunning wildlife and rich history! Perfect for young learners 4+ and their caregivers. Check in at the front desk upon arrival.

This August, in collaboration with the Museum’s new special exhibit, Rhythm of the River, we will be reading The Rhythm of the Rain, a picture book from Greenaway medal-winner, Grahame Baker-Smith. The book begins with Isaac, a little boy playing by his favorite pond, emptying a jar of water into the pond. The story follows the water from his jar as it travels around the world, explaining the water cycle with beautiful illustrations and capturing the remarkable movement of water across the earth in all its majesty.

After the story, young learners and their caregivers will explore the rhythm of the water cycle by making their own Water Cycle Spinner. Using just paper plates, brass brads, and markers, you can create and explore your own journey from vapor in the sky to water in the river down below.
