Rodenticide and similar poisons may seem like an effective method of pest control, but they pose real dangers to us, our pets and to wildlife – including bald eagles! Join Christine Cummings from A Place Called Hope (a Raptor Rehabilitation and Education Center based in Killingworth, CT) and Nicole Rivard from Friends of Animals for an exploration of why poisons don’t solve pest problems and how to apply long term strategies that solve the issue without harming our local wildlife.

Christine Cummings has devoted her adult life to Wildlife Rehabilitation since 2005. In 2007, A Place Called Hope was founded, with the mission of preserving wildlife for the future. As a State and Federally licensed Bird of Prey Wildlife Rehabilitator, Christine admits on average 500-600 patients per year. Her daily routine consists of catering to the needs of injured, orphaned, or sick birds of prey, as well as the 40 resident ambassador birds who call ACPH home. Christine hopes to promote a better understanding of ways we can all coexist with the wildlife we find in our very own backyards.

Nicole Rivard started working at Friends of Animals in 2013. She brings 28 years of journalism experience to FoA’s Action Line magazine and to the front lines— protesting and documenting atrocities against animals exploited by the carriage horse, fur and hunting industries, as well as the Bureau of Land Management’s mismanagement of America’s wild horses. Nicole also helps direct FoA’s legislative outreach and is currently working on banning second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides in CT. She enjoys photography, wildlife watching and wild places.
