Homeschool Day: Navigation, Charts & Maps

NOVEMBER: Navigation, Charts & Maps—Thursday 11.14.24
Imagine being out in the middle of an endless ocean with no land in sight. How would you find your way? It’s a good thing you have your tools and chart! Alongside one of our Museum educators, we’ll explore why charts and maps were (and still are) crucial to navigators across the globe. We’ll also practice orienteering, charting a course, and students will make a map to bring home.
Curriculum Connection: Students will learn the basics of navigation, including the different kinds of navigation and their purposes, as well as how to read a chart (historic and modern). They will also gain an understanding of the concept of cardinal directions and the importance of using common symbols when making maps.
