An accessible workshop on making photographs with objects from nature using the sun’s light! No experience necessary. All supplies provided.

Join exhibiting artist Evie Lovett for a hands-on experience making photographs using objects, the light of the sun, and water! With cyanotype photography, we make photographs by placing objects you choose on specially coated non-toxic light-sensitive paper, exposing it to the light of the sun, and developing the image in water. The result is a captivating image in shades of dark blue to white. Create a work of art and discover the process behind Lovett’s artwork, currently on view in Watermark: Capturing the Connecticut exhibit.

Although supplies will be provided, you are welcome to bring your own flowers, leaves, or plants, which can be used to make cyanotypes.

Evie Lovett’s work spans cyanotype, digital and analog photography, digital media, storytelling, encaustic painting, teaching, public art, and social practice in art, in multiple mediums. She is motivated to explore the spaces where people and the natural world meet and interact, to slow down and listen to the stories that emerge when good questions are asked of people and places. Bringing a social and environmental justice and equity lens to her work is a priority. What especially fuels her is when the tools of art-making are in people’s own hands, enabling them to explore aspects of themselves, their families, their communities, and the world around them through art-making and community collaboration, fearlessly and with joy. Her current artmaking explores the concept and reality of a watershed through large-scale installations of cyanotypes on vellum.
