Connecticut River Valley Maritime Trade, Commerce, and Construction
Summer 2027

The Connecticut River Museum tells the stories of those who have worked in and along the Connecticut River. In the summer of 2027, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the under-researched history of African, African American, Indigenous, and other non-European people who contributed to the maritime trade industry. Their labor and skills were essential across many occupations, including crews on sailing and steam vessels, sailmakers, riggers, shipyard workers, roustabouts, coopers, blacksmiths, wood cutters, cordwainers, shippers, and merchants.
