Crossing the Connecticut: Bridges of the Connecticut River

April – October 2013

This exhibit celebrated bridges on the Connecticut River past and present. Ten bridges are highlighted – spread along the River’s 410 mile waterway. Many of these bridges share a common story of evolution from ferry crossing, to timbered bridge, to modern monumental structure. These bridges demonstrate the challenge to build safer, stronger spans during a time of tremendous industrial growth. Many bridges became cultural statement within their urban or rural environments.
