Prices are listed below. \nIn-person Pricing:\nMembers: FREE \nNon-Members: $10.00 \nVirtual Pricing:\nMembers: FREE\nNon-Members: $5.00 \nALL Members\, Non-Members\, and virtual attendees must use the link below to reserve your spot. Virtual attendees will be sent the live stream link after purchasing a Virtual Ticket. \nRESERVE YOUR SPOT \nHow long does a trip from New York to Boston take these days? The first post rider in the seventeenth century would have spent 14 days on their journey – much longer than the 6 hour trip we are used to now. Travel through time with author and historian Richard DeLuca and explore the rapid evolution of transportation in Connecticut from colonial times to the present day! \nRichard DeLuca earned a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from Manhattan College in New York in 1968\, and a Master of Science degree in transportation planning from the University of Connecticut at Storrs in 1972. He has ten years of experience in the field of engineering as a transportation planner with the Connecticut Department of Transportation (1968-74) and with the Central Connecticut Regional Planning Agency (1974-78). \nDeLuca began his career in writing after moving to San Francisco in 1978. He focused on California history\, writing an article on the Indian occupation of Alcatraz Island and the origins of the Native American civil rights movement which was published in California History magazine and received the society’s Alice J. Clark award for twentieth-century history in 1984. Ten years later he published We\, The People! Bay Area Activism in the 1960s\, which documented the historical roots of the social protest that took place in the 1960s. \nDeLuca returned to Connecticut in 1998. Since 2006\, he has been at work on a two-volume history of Connecticut transportation from the colonial period to the present. The first volume\, Post Roads & Iron Horses\, was published by Wesleyan University Press in December of 2011\, and covers the history of Connecticut from colonial times through the age of steam. The second volume\, entitled Paved Roads & Public Money\, focusing on transportation in the twentieth century was published in 2020\, and received the Connecticut Book Award from the Connecticut Humanities Council. DeLuca has presented his research at several history conferences\, and published several articles in Connecticut History Review\, the journal of the Association for the Study of Connecticut History (ASCH). \nHe may be reached at: \nRichard DeLuca\n72 Old Towne Road\nCheshire\, Connecticut 06410\n(203) 272-7261\nrdeluca635@gmail.com

DESCRIPTION:Special Exhibit\nThe River We Call Home: Art Inspired by 75 Years in the Connecticut River Watershed\nOn view: February 13\, 2027 — May 30\, 2027 \nThe Connecticut River Museum is excited to collaborate with the Connecticut River Conservancy (CRC) and the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center for this wonderful exhibit in celebration of the CRC’s 75th anniversary. This exhibition seeks to reflect a legacy of love and stewardship through artistic interpretations of the river as a home. By highlighting the watershed’s dimensionality as only art can do\, the exhibit will stir a renewed sense of passion and engagement for environmental conservation amount museum visitors. \nTwo unified yet distinct contemporary art exhibits will be held at beautifully situated river-side locations in 2027: one here\, at the Connecticut River Museum from February to May\, and one at the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center in Brattleboro\, Vermont from July to October. \nAbout the Organizers: \nThe Connecticut River Museum deepens appreciation of the Connecticut River’s history and inspires its stewardship through art\, history\, and the environment. Located at the historic Steamboat Dock in Essex\, Connecticut\, the Museum features permanent and changing galleries as well as a historic house\, and is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. The Museum also operates two vessels\, RiverQuest and Onrust\, offering cruises along the lower Connecticut River. Learn more at ctrivermuseum.org. \nThe Connecticut River Conservancy (CRC) restores and advocates for clean water\, healthy habitats\, and resilient communities to support a diverse and thriving watershed. CRC has been a steward of the Connecticut River and tributary streams since 1952. Through collaborative partnerships in New Hampshire\, Vermont\, Massachusetts\, and Connecticut\, we lead and support science-based efforts for natural and life-filled rivers from source to sea. Our programs include advocacy\, aquatic invasive species management\, dam removal\, habitat restoration\, migratory fish surveys\, trash cleanups\, and water quality monitoring. Together through community engagement and education\, we are dedicated to ensuring healthy rivers for all. Learn more at ctriver.org. \nBrattleboro Museum & Art Center (BMAC) is an independent\, non-collecting contemporary art museum situated near the confluence of the Connecticut and West Rivers\, long a place of great significance to the indigenous people of the area\, a site of transportation and trade\, and the source of inspiration for many artists.
