Fascinated by what he calls “the American paradox\,” the ever-challenging conundrum between the nation’s founding document and the difficulties of pursuing essential ideas of freedom\, Warshauer pursued an MA and Ph.D. at Saint Louis University. He has spent the last 40 years exploring the great American experiment in self-government. The author of six books and countless articles and reviews\, Warshauer has written extensively on Andrew Jackson\, slavery and the Civil War\, and\, most recently\, 9/11 and how the most important and devastating event of the 21st century has impacted the world in which we live. Creating and Failing the 9/11 Generation: The Real Story of September 11 was released from Routledge Press. He is currently studying the Declaration of Independence and the Revolutionary War era\, as the 250th anniversary allows the nation to reflect on the origins and meaning of America. With a unique ability to draw in his audience\, Warshauer guides listeners through the complexities of American\npolitical and constitutional history so that we can all think more clearly and gain a better of understanding of our role as citizens.

SUMMARY:Live from the Boathouse! Steve Gephard presents Sea Lamprey: Misunderstood River Engineers
DESCRIPTION:Live from the Boathouse!\nSteve Gephard presents Sea Lamprey: Misunderstood River Engineers\nTuesday\, September 09\, 2025\n6 – 7 pm \nIn-person and Virtual Pricing:\nMembers: FREE (please use the ticket reservation link to reserve your spot)\nNon-Members: $5.00 \nThis lecture will be available in person and over Zoom. But these parasitic creatures are not all that they seem. Sea Lamprey play an important and under-recognized role in the Connecticut River ecosystem\, providing food for other river species and bringing in vital nutrients from the ocean. Join Steve Gephard for a talk that dissects these misunderstood fish and challenges our ideas of which species are “good” and worthy of our appreciation. \nAs a Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection fisheries biologist\, Steve Gephard worked tirelessly for 42years to restore a viable population of Atlantic salmon and other migratory fishes in the Connecticut River. Now\, he educates the public about the role fish play in the ecosystem and works with governments in North America and Europe to conserve salmon populations in the North Atlantic.

SUMMARY:Live from the Boathouse: A Place Called Hope
DESCRIPTION:September 17th\, 2024\nLive from the Boathouse!\nA Place Called Hope presents Think Outside the Bait Box \n6:00 – 7:00 pm\nMembers: FREE (please use the ticket reservation link to reserve your spot)\nNon-Members: $5.00 \n  \nRESERVE YOUR SPOT\n  \nRodenticide and similar poisons may seem like an effective method of pest control\, but they pose real dangers to us\, our pets and to wildlife – including bald eagles! Join Christine Cummings from A Place Called Hope (a Raptor Rehabilitation and Education Center based in Killingworth\, CT) and Nicole Rivard from Friends of Animals for an exploration of why poisons don’t solve pest problems and how to apply long term strategies that solve the issue without harming our local wildlife. \n  \n \n  \nChristine Cummings has devoted her adult life to Wildlife Rehabilitation since 2005. In 2007\, A Place Called Hope was founded\, with the mission of preserving wildlife for the future. As a State and Federally licensed Bird of Prey Wildlife Rehabilitator\, Christine admits on average 500-600 patients per year. Her daily routine consists of catering to the needs of injured\, orphaned\, or sick birds of prey\, as well as the 40 resident ambassador birds who call ACPH home. Christine hopes to promote a better understanding of ways we can all coexist with the wildlife we find in our very own backyards. \n  \n  \n \nNicole Rivard started working at Friends of Animals in 2013. She brings 28 years of journalism experience to FoA’s Action Line magazine and to the front lines— protesting and documenting atrocities against animals exploited by the carriage horse\, fur and hunting industries\, as well as the Bureau of Land Management’s mismanagement of America’s wild horses. Nicole also helps direct FoA’s legislative outreach and is currently working on banning second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides in CT. She enjoys photography\, wildlife watching and wild places. She can be reached at nrivard@friendsofanimals.org. \n  \n  \nThe Connecticut River Museum may record this event\, including all questions\, comments\, etc. by the audience.
