DESCRIPTION:Lectures Underway: Gillette Castle\nAugust 15\, 2025\n6:00 – 8:00 pm \nMembers: $30\nNon-Members: $35 \nRESERVE YOUR SPACE \nJoin us aboard RiverQuest for a special cruise with Paul Schiller\, who after years of giving tours of Gillette Castle\, is taking his act on the road (or river).  Paul\, a self-described “Castle Nerd” and “Gillexpert”\, will tell you everything  you ever wanted to know about Gillette Castle and its namesake\, William Gillette. He will take you “behind the stones” and unlock the secrets of the castle and its mysterious creator. \n \nPaul Schiller spent almost a decade working at Gillette Castle. Aside from providing engaging and informative tours to castle visitors\, he served as an archivist\, researcher and educator for the park. During the Covid-19 Pandemic\, Paul created a series of video tours of the castle\, available on the Friends of Gillette Castle State Park YouTube Channel. Paul has spoken about the castle on local radio stations such as iCRV in Ivoryton\, WPKN Bridgeport\, WGCH Greenwich\, WTIC-AM\, and WRCH and WSHU. Likewise\, he has been interviewed on NBC Connecticut and Fox61 and appeared on NESN’s ‘New England Boating’ and WFSB’s ‘Better Connecticut’ (now Great Day). He has presented his Gillecture at multiple venues\, including the Little Theater of Manchester and Danbury Public Library\, Cheshire Public Library and the Mark Twain House and Museum. \nRESERVE YOUR SPACE \nThe Connecticut River Museum may record this event\, including all questions\, comments\, etc. by the audience. On this special cruise\, passengers will trace the path of the British Raid on Essex during the War of 1812\, which saw 27 ships set aflame in the single greatest loss of American shipping of the entire war. Explore the real-world locations of this dramatic chapter in Connecticut history alongside the author of The British Raid on Essex: The Forgotten Battle of the War of 1812. \n \nJerry Roberts has been in the history business for over 30 years. He has served as Vice President in charge of Exhibits at the Intrepid Sea Air Space Museum in New York City\, and as Executive Director of the National Lighthouse Museum project in NYC\, the Connecticut River Museum in Essex CT\, and the New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks CT. He has designed and built over fifty exhibits\, designed and project managed several major museum expansion and infrastructure projects.
