SUMMARY:RiverQuest Osprey Cruise
DESCRIPTION:See the young Osprey at and around the nests! \nJoin us aboard RiverQuest as we quietly cruise the lower Connecticut River to learn about and observe a fascinating bird of prey\, the Osprey. In mid-July\, most of the young Osprey are getting big\, so we will see some of them hanging around on the edge of their nest getting ready to take their first flight\, cute! Some younger birds will be seen being fed\, it takes a lot of fish to feed these families. Some young may have already left the nest\, they will be seen in the air honing their flying skills. We will educate all about the amazing journey the Osprey takes to their southern winter home and lots of other interesting Osprey facts. Although the Osprey is our main focus\, other wildlife (possible Bald Eagles\, hawks\, ducks\, etc) and sights (Historic Essex Harbor\, the Baldwin bridge if we go south/Hamburg Cove\, Joshua Rock if we go North and so mush more) we observe on our journey will also be pointed out and discussed. You may bring food/beverage with you. This cruise is 2 hours long. Due to the length of the cruise\, no one under 10 please. \nAdults: $40 \nMuseum Members: $36 \n\nBook online now!

Steve’s extensive knowledge of the River and experience working with environmental organizations will make for an exciting and enriching experience on the water\, and a prime opportunity to reflect on our relationship with the Earth. \n  \nImage Credit: Cloe Poisson

SUMMARY:Selden Island Hike
DESCRIPTION:The Connecticut River Museum and Connecticut Audubon EcoTravel have teamed up to offer this unique experience. We will be departing on the vessel RiverQuest at 8:00am to go to Selden Neck State Park. There will be 3 guided hikes of your choosing. Pack a lunch in your day pack to enjoy on the island. We will return to the Museum around 2:30. \nSELDEN PLANT HIKE:\nLearn about Nature Journaling.  Selden Neck State Park\, bordered to the east by Selden Creek and by the Connecticut River to the west\, is a 607-acre island roughly a half-mile wide and one-and-a-half miles long. The island is completely blanketed with lush woodland vegetation\, except for the tidal marshes. Join a CRM educator to hike and explore the plant life that inhabits the island. \nBIRDING SELDEN ISLAND\nExplore the trails of Selden Island in search of breeding birds tending their nests. This large\, but little explored island is home to breeding warblers\, vireos\, thrushes\, and more. From the wooded hills\, look out into the tidal marshes and listen for rails\, Marsh Wren\, Swamp Sparrow\, and other secretive birds. If we’re lucky\, we may get some glimpses of Bald Eagles that breed in the area. \nSELDEN ISLAND HIKE\nHike to the top of the lookout\, exploring the historical sites of the island with views of the Connecticut River and Selden Creek. Look for ruins of the old farm buildings after exploring the abandoned quarry. In the late 1800s\, stone from the quarry was used as pavers across New York City. \nPhysical fitness is required\, as trail conditions may be variable and in some places could be steep. Sturdy footwear and a water bottle are a must. \n$75 Members \n$85 Non-Members \nBOOK NOW

This is really one show that you do not want to miss! \nNew Haven based quartet “JSB” (shortened for The John Spignesi Band) is a group you don’t want to sleep on. Led by guitarist/frontman\, John “Spigs” Spignesi\, this band has been steadily making a name for themselves in the East Coast jam scene since their formation in January 2015. \n“What’s on the setlist tonight?” many fans tend to ask. The answer is you\, the audience\, and the vibe at the venue. Together we can guide the journey and the energy of the show. It’s about that shared experience. JSB has never used setlists\, often sculpting shows on the fly\, with rockers\, ballads\, & sing-a-longs. A truly diverse musical ensemble who doesn’t believe limiting themselves to genres\, JSB performs a wide variety of original tunes while adding in covers that they truly make their own. \nImage Courtesy: John Spignesi \n
